This is, at first glance, so strange. Yet very few photos from my childhood (grew up mostly in the 1960s and early 1970s) include my mother as she was the one who took most of our photos. I realized this before I became a mother, after my mom passed away and I was searching for photos of her. I made a concerted effort to get photos of me with my children as a result. I like the idea of the mother's presence keeping the baby calm for the photo but the baby seems to be incomplete without the mother.
